So on saturday the 24th we hosted our first intro session for Hudson Locale.
Very fitting that it was a workshop on mushroom cultivation. we quickly learned that mushrooms and mycelium networks control and regulate whole ecosystems and are the number one developer of healthy soil systems. We viewed a slide show on the topic of mushrooms and looked at their context in the ecosystems and built environments we create.
The workshop was led by student mycologist Sean Walsh who showed us, hands on, how to inoculate garden beds, sawdust bags, and oak logs with maitake, reishi, winecap and shitake mushrooms. The turnout was amazing! Thoughout the afternoon 30 participants from all over came together to learn and participate. We raised almost $200 in donations, and donors got to take home their own mushroom bags. It was also a very successful day for the pleroma farm store. during the course multiple participants stopped through the store to buy milk, eggs, herbs, and honey. business has started!
we had an amazing potluck. and the course was a great reciprocal exchange between all the people involved
we would like to thank the following people
All those who came together in the days leading up to the course who offered time to help us get set up
Our neighbors at Baker Orchards who donated oak logs when we realized ours were to fresh to inoculate
Eddie Stiffler our other neighbor who donated a grill for us to use long term for our projects.
Sean Walsh for putting together an amazing presentation and workshop.
Amanda Yorke of Countess Carrots, a vegan baker who provided samples of her amazing vegan baking which will be available through our farm and cafe this summer.
everyone else who came and brought their support and enthusiasm, it was a truly amazing beginning and we hope to see you all soon.
